Anaplan — Supported · 93% fit · Grade A
SupportedFor your $140M recurring-revenue software business, Anaplan models each product or pricing tier as a named item in a Products list, which becomes a dimension on your revenue modules. Each line item — growth rate, unit price, volume, and attach rate — resolves independently per product or tier, so a formula like Volumes * Unit Price * (1 + Unit Price Growth %) calculates separately for each row in the product dimension without sharing assumptions across tiers (Anaplan help center, Line Items and Dimensions documentation). The SaaS-specific planning template explicitly supports modeling by contract length, per-user pricing, and product, and covers MRR, churn, renewals, CAC, and LTV out of the box (Anaplan Planning, Budgeting, and Forecasting for SaaS support page). Cross-sell attach assumptions are modeled as a dedicated driver line item within the same module structure, and scenario comparison allows churn, upsell, and renewal drivers to be adjusted per scenario without rebuilding the model.
Limitations
The depth of the initial SaaS revenue model depends on implementation: the out-of-the-box template provides a starting point, but a model builder (internal or partner) will need to configure product hierarchies, attach rate logic, and cohort structures to match your specific product catalog and cross-sell motion. No fixed cap on the number of products or pricing tiers is documented.

Adaptive Planning — Supported · 88% fit · Grade A
SupportedFor a $140M recurring-revenue software company with multiple products and pricing tiers, Adaptive Planning delivers this requirement through its multi-dimensional sheet architecture. The modeler creates a custom 'Product' dimension (with values for each product SKU or pricing tier) and builds a cube sheet or modeled sheet against it, allowing the FP&A team to plan revenue by product and customer in a single merged view. Official documentation shows exactly this pattern: creating product and customer custom dimensions, then using them 'to plan your revenue by product and customer in a merged cube sheet' (Workday Adaptive Planning help center, 'Example: Create Product and Customer Custom Dimensions'). Growth rates are set as per-sheet assumption accounts on each modeled sheet, which are independent of global assumptions and always draw from the plan version, so each product's growth rate is maintained and calculated separately without contaminating other products' drivers (Workday help center, 'Modeled Sheet Assumptions vs. Global Assumptions'). Cross-sell attach rates are implemented as formula-driven calculated accounts or lookup tables that reference the originating product's volume to derive attach revenue on a second product, using Adaptive's formula engine and assumption accounts. Third-party practitioner documentation confirms that cube sheets are routinely used for 'Revenue Modelling (by product, customer, channel, etc.)' and that SaaS account modeling is an explicitly supported model type.
Limitations
Cross-sell attach assumptions are not a named out-of-the-box field: the FP&A team (or an implementation partner) must configure the attach logic using Adaptive's formula and assumption account framework, which adds implementation time relative to vendors with pre-built SaaS revenue templates. Third-party assessments also note that complex subscription revenue models with advanced usage-based or multi-channel mechanics are functional but may not reach the sophistication of purpose-built revenue intelligence tools.

Planful — Supported · 82% fit · Grade A
SupportedFor a $140M recurring-revenue software company, Planful addresses multi-product revenue modeling through two layers. In Dynamic Planning, the team builds a Revenue Forecast model with a Product dimension covering each SKU or pricing tier; dimension members can be added at any time without regenerating the model, and the formula engine computes revenue at the intersection of Quantity, Price, Product, and Scenario, enabling per-product-tier calculations (Planful Dynamic Planning Model Dimensions and Formulas help articles). Independent growth rates are implemented as Structured Planning Global Fields, which are reusable percentage or number variables defined once and maintained separately per scenario, so Product A's growth rate and Product B's growth rate live as distinct drivers that update across budget, forecast, and what-if scenarios simultaneously (Planful Global Fields help articles). Cross-sell attach assumptions are modeled as calculated driver formulas referencing the attach-eligible customer base at the product-dimension intersection; Planful's SaaS revenue planning solution page explicitly describes planning across SaaS cohorts, SKUs, and customer segments in one model, with allocation logic and booking waterfalls pre-configured (planful.com/solutions/sales/, planful.com/solution-hub/saas-topdown/).
Limitations
Cross-sell attach rate modeling requires custom formula configuration in Dynamic Planning rather than a turnkey attach-rate input field, so the FP&A team or an implementation partner must design and maintain that logic. Planful's own performance guidance recommends keeping total global drivers to 50 per application for optimal performance, which may constrain buyers who need a very large number of independent per-product assumptions across many pricing tiers.

Critical · Drill from a consolidated variance to the underlying transactions or journal entries in the general ledger
Adaptive Planning: SupportedPlanful: SupportedAnaplan: PartialSummaryAdaptive Planning supports this: For a NetSuite shop with 5 entities, Adaptive has two documented ways to go from a variance cell to the underlying ledger detail. Planful supports this: For a NetSuite-based team with 5 legal entities and a board-level variance review, Planful provides Drill Through in Dynamic Reports. Anaplan partially supports this: For your NetSuite-based, 5-entity planning model, Anaplan drills inside its own model.
Adaptive Planning — Supported · 72% fit · Grade A
SupportedFor a NetSuite shop with 5 entities, Adaptive has two documented ways to go from a variance cell to the underlying ledger detail. Both start in Explore Cell and sheet drill options. (1) Drill back into NetSuite: both the base NetSuite integration and Adaptive Integration with NetSuite enhancements allow drill-back into NetSuite for standard transaction categories, and the user needs a NetSuite license. (2) Drill inside Adaptive: NetSuite transactions can be imported into Adaptive's Transactions module on a scheduled integration task, with drill-through on those transactions inside Adaptive. This route needs no individual NetSuite licenses for business users, and it covers NetSuite categories beyond the standard ones. This is a post-close variance step: actuals load from NetSuite, and the cell can be traced back to its source transactions. Adaptive's own Workday Financials drill is a separate path and does not apply to a NetSuite GL.
Limitations
The documentation says the NetSuite drill-through option is only available to tenants whose NetSuite integration was configured before August 12, 2024. A new NetSuite customer may therefore need the Transactions module route, which means loading transaction detail into Adaptive on a schedule. The NetSuite external-system drill path works from leaf levels only, not rollup levels, so a consolidated board-level variance has to be traced down to a leaf cell first, and the NetSuite drill-back path also needs NetSuite licenses for each user.

Planful — Supported · 72% fit · Grade A
SupportedFor a NetSuite-based team with 5 legal entities and a board-level variance review, Planful provides Drill Through in Dynamic Reports. You select any data cell in a report and choose Drill Through to see the transactional or translation detail loaded with Data Load Rules. Data imported from a general ledger, adjustments made with journals, and the transformations from the Consolidation process can all be drilled into. That lets a consolidated figure be traced back toward entity-level GL balances and consolidation journals. The drill-through report has tabs for Transactions, GL Data Loads, Consolidation and others. With Doc Ref turned on, GL data is shown by data load rule label. With it off, data is aggregated by segment and currency combination. The detail comes from NetSuite through NetSuite Connect, which uses saved searches. NetSuite Connect can load Segment Hierarchies, GL Data or Transaction Data. A newer ODBC connector is also available. It loads GL Data, Transactions V2 and External Source Model via Data Load Rules. Planful's own integrations page also says it connects to pull trial balances, journal entries, chart of accounts, and cost center data. This covers the reporting and variance-analysis step of the buyer's process, and it works from the same actuals the plan is built on (fact-sheet claim 7c18004d).
Limitations
Drill-through only reaches data loaded with Data Load Rules, so the team must load NetSuite transaction detail (saved searches or the ODBC connector) for all 5 entities. It is a loaded copy, not a live view of the ledger. Calculated members, advanced rules, Excel formulas, rank and pivot are not supported in drill-through reports, so a computed variance column will not drill and users will need to drill from the underlying actual cell. Multi-dimensional advanced rules must be manually converted to simple rules before drill-through opens.

Anaplan — Partially supported · 70% fit · Grade A
PartialFor your NetSuite-based, 5-entity planning model, Anaplan drills inside its own model. It does not link back to NetSuite. Drill to Transaction filters a source module by the dimensions of a summary cell and shows the transaction rows behind a SUM, provided the user has Read access to the source module (Anaplan Anapedia: Use drill to transaction). Drill Down steps through formulas and modules to the lowest data cells, and Anaplan's own example is an expense line in an income statement traced to general ledger codes (Anapedia: Drill down to the data). The GL rows therefore have to be imported into Anaplan first, using its data integration layer, which the fact sheet describes as connecting 'planning data from any source' (claim ad6faf98). Variance reports can then drill back to those imported rows.
Limitations
Drill to Transaction supports only simple SUM formulas, not SELECT or LOOKUP. It works best on a two-dimensional source module, and it can only go back one level, to the source module. A variance built through intermediate modules, as a multi-entity consolidation with FX typically is, therefore won't drill straight to transactions. Drill Down can't show the raw import file, and on a SUM it doesn't filter to only the values used in the calculation. The user lands on Anaplan's imported copy of the data, not the NetSuite journal entry, and I found no documentation of a live link to NetSuite records.

Important · Create and retain multiple named scenarios from one base model without copying the model
Adaptive Planning: SupportedPlanful: SupportedAnaplan: UnclearSummaryAdaptive Planning supports this: For a 5-entity, 60-cost-center planning model that now lives in linked Excel workbooks, Adaptive keeps one model and layers named scenarios on top of it, so the FP&A team doesn't copy workbooks. Planful supports this: For a team that runs one annual budget, quarterly reforecasts and board-level downside and upside cases off a single NetSuite-fed model, Planful treats each case as a named scenario inside the same planning application rather than a separate workbook. Anaplan support is unclear: For a two-person FP&A team running quarterly reforecasts and board-level scenario analysis, Anaplan addresses this requirement through its built-in Versions dimension, which is present in every model by default.
Adaptive Planning — Supported · 85% fit · Grade A
SupportedFor a 5-entity, 60-cost-center planning model that now lives in linked Excel workbooks, Adaptive keeps one model and layers named scenarios on top of it, so the FP&A team doesn't copy workbooks. Planners create personal what-if scenarios as private sandboxes. Changes such as adjusting a driver or shifting a hiring date are visible only to the planner. They can also share scenarios: once shared, collaborators select the scenario, nested under the base version, in sheets, reports, and dashboards. A scenario can be merged into the base version when it is adopted. For larger or bulk changes, Adaptive recommends plan versions instead, which are created inside the same model. You get 1 plan version by default, but you can create many more for different purposes. Teams create additional versions for board forecasts, rolling forecasts, upside cases, and downside cases. Workday's scenario page also advertises unlimited shareable what-if scenarios. This fits the buyer's quarterly reforecast and board scenario cycle: the base plan stays intact while the named upside and downside cases are retained and compared against actuals and each other.
Limitations
Personal scenarios are meant for small edits. Workday's guidance is to use versions for changes affecting more than about 10,000 cells or for bulk loads, so a full-model board downside case will probably be a plan version, not a lightweight scenario. Documented guardrails also include 5,000 scenarios per instance, 2,000 sheet saves per scenario, and a recommended maximum of 50 collaborators per shared scenario; none of these should constrain a two-person FP&A team.

Planful — Supported · 78% fit · Grade A
SupportedFor a team that runs one annual budget, quarterly reforecasts and board-level downside and upside cases off a single NetSuite-fed model, Planful treats each case as a named scenario inside the same planning application rather than a separate workbook. An admin goes to Maintenance > Administration > Scenario Setup, clicks Add, picks a Scenario Type such as Forecast, and enters a Scenario Code and optional Scenario Name. Data is then seeded from a reference scenario into the new one, and overlapping periods are mapped by default. The Reference Scenario option can also copy templates, notes, sublines and dynamic journals. The templates and hierarchy stay shared, and only the scenario's data and inputs differ. Planful says users can run multiple what-if versions against the original scenario and compare outcomes without leaving the model or duplicating files. Its blog adds that original plans stay intact while alternative outcomes are layered in. High-level assumption changes cascade through automatically, at any level in the hierarchy. Scenarios persist as saved objects by fiscal year, so Base, Downside and Upside versions of the 12-month forecast can sit side by side for the quarterly board meeting.
Limitations
Each scenario is a seeded data version tied to a fiscal year, not a lightweight overlay of changes on the base. A Budget scenario cannot be converted to a Forecast, and scenarios must be forwarded before users can see them. In-template Compare Scenarios are capped at 6 references. A rolling 12-month view across fiscal-year boundaries therefore needs careful scenario and period-mapping setup, and some reviewers describe Planful's scenario modeling as less flexible than enterprise modeling platforms, so test your board scenarios in a proof of concept.

Anaplan — Unclear · 95% fit · Grade C
UnclearNo public documentation foundNo public documentation covering this requirement was found on the documentation sources this vendor publishes. That is a limit of the public evidence, not a finding about the product.
For a two-person FP&A team running quarterly reforecasts and board-level scenario analysis, Anaplan addresses this requirement through its built-in Versions dimension, which is present in every model by default. Workspace administrators access the Versions pane from Model settings to create, delete, and manage named versions within the same model, with no need to copy it. Additional versions can be created so users can compare different scenarios side by side, all within a single model. Each version holds an independent set of assumptions: up to a configurable switchover date the version's data mirrors Actual and is read-only; after that date, each version's data is independently editable, so scenario assumptions diverge from the base without touching other versions. Bulk Copy lets administrators seed any new scenario version from an existing version in one step, so a new 'Upside,' 'Downside,' or 'Board Base' scenario starts from the shared baseline data rather than a blank slate. Model builders can then configure variance reports to compare the figures between any two versions automatically. Practitioners also use a custom list-based Scenarios dimension as an alternative, allowing theoretically as many saved scenarios as needed, though governance discipline is recommended to avoid proliferation.
Limitations
Anaplan's own documentation cautions that before creating many named versions, teams should consider whether a standard list dimension might be more performant, as adding Versions as a dimension to every module increases cell count and can affect model size. For a 60-cost-center, 5-entity model like this buyer's, that trade-off is manageable but worth evaluating during model design.
